Harry Elmer Barnes

Harry Elmer Barnes, född 15 juni 1889, död 25 augusti 1968. Amerikansk historiker verksam vid Columbia University, New School for Social Research och Smith College där han undervisade i ekonomi, sociologi och historia. Författare av flera böcker inom ämnet historia och revisionism.

Barnes betraktas som en av revisionismens grundare och ägnade en stor del av sin tid åt att forska kring första världskriget och ställa historiska fakta tillrätta. Under 1920-talet spelade Barnes en viktig roll i arbetet med att revidera flera myter om Tysklands roll i första världskriget, ett arbete som i samma anda av sanningssökande fortsatte även efter andra världskriget. År 1958 skrev Barnes: "Revisionism implies an honest search for historical truth and the discrediting of misleading myths that are a barrier to peace and goodwill among nations. In the minds of anti-Revisionists, the term savors of malice, vindictiveness, and an unholy desire to smear the saviors of mankind. Actually, Revisionism means nothing more or less than the effort to correct the historical record in the light of a more complete collection of historical facts, a more calm political atmosphere, and a more objective attitude".
